The Louvre museum and its glass pyramid
The Louvre, one of the largest and finest art museum in the world. If you want to see everything, the 60 000 m² of exhibition rooms will keep you busy for a few days. But you will also find people in a great hurry with a list of "must-see" items and the mission to run from the Joconde to the Venus de Milo and the Victoire de Samothrace in less than an hour.
In 1985 the decision to choose architect Ieoh Ming Pei's renovation project caused considerable controversy as it involved the construction of a huge glass pyramid in the centre of the cour Napoléon. Now most people agree that this mix of classical and modern architecture is a success and only Louis XIV (on his horse) turns his back on the pyramid ("Mais qu'ont-ils fait de mon palais ?).
