Night view from the Pont-Neuf
Pont-Neuf means New Bridge but it's the oldest bridge in Paris (built between 1578 and 1604).
It's not one but two bridges as the river Seine is here divided in two around the Cité island and the bridge straddles the western part of the island (Vert Galant garden).
The brightly lit building is the Samaritaine department store built in 1870. Before the Samaritaine a water tower was standing there; it was decorated with a bas relief depicting the Samaritan woman giving water to Jesus (hence the name).
