A côté du refuge de Drekagil, on peut grimper une petite butte conique pour avoir ce panorama sur les environs. La caldeira d'Askja est dans la direction du soleil couchant. Encore éclairé l'Herđubreiđ, 1682m, ancien volcan sous-glaciaire typique, est la montagne "préférée" des islandais.
