Playa Santo Domingo on the Omotepe Island Located in the Cocibolca lake (Lago Nicaragua) it's the biggest lacustrine island in the world. It's name means Two-hills as it is formed of two volcanos linked by a narrow strip of sand : the highest is the beautifully shaped volcano Conceptión (1610 m) and the other one is the Maderas (1394 m). Playa Santo Domingo, located on the isthmus between the two volcano, is a popular beach with warm shallow water and shady restaurants. Beware, the lake is known as the only place on earth where you can find fresh water sharks !
