Tzintzuntzan ruins near Lago Pátzcuaro - Michoacan (Mexico)
Tzintzuntzan means place of the humming birds in the Tarascan language. This place is located 15 km from Pátzcuaro in the state of Michocan.
These ancient structures called Yacatas were used for religious ceremonies by the Perpecha and Tarascan Indians before the Spanish arrival in the 1500's.
The Aztec's were never able to defeat the Tarascan and push their empire to the Pacific coast.
