Site maya de Xunantunich, vue depuis le temple El Castillo haut de 40 mètres. Situé près de la ville frontalière de Benque Viejo del Carmen, il occupe le sommet d'une colline au bord de la rivière Mopan. La plupart des structures datent de la période Maya Classique (entre 200 à 900). Son nom signifie vierge de pierre en maya.
